MY LIFE WITH A 10 YEAR OLD AND MY OBSESSIONS....SEWING and KNITTING!

Saturday, September 30, 2006

Sharon has received the dishcloth I made for her for the Dishcloth Shuffle, so I can post a pic now.
I left it to block overnight, and when I came upon it the next morning, I found the Chicken Little gang helping out.

I used one skein of Lily Sugar n Cream in a blue, yellow, and white. The pattern came from an old Knit It magazine.

If at first you don't succeed....

This is the first incarnation of my Super Secret Surprise for Isabelle. I'm trying to make a little summer cardi. A little longer than a bolero, a little shorter than a regular cardigan. It'll be summertime in Australia when she gets it, so I want her to be able to wear it right away.
I liked the seed stitch border on the Baby Cardi I just finished so I thought I'd try it on this, but I don't like it at all. It's going to be ripped out this evening. I guess I'll try a ribbed border and see how it goes. The good thing is I have my very own life size model who is about the same size as Isabelle!

And speaking of the Baby Cardi, I gave it to my very pregnant friend, Sonja, last night, and she loved it. It could have been the hormones, but she cried when I gave it to her! She told me this morning that her hubby liked it too. They have two boys already, so I think they're just tickled pink (or lavender) to be having a girl!

We went to the Dodger game last night. It was a first for Noey. Her first Dodger Dog too. (I don't know the final score - they were losing when we left.) ***Edited to Add*** They lost! 9 to 3! Yikes!

I've been trying all season to generate some interest in this being our "family activity." You know, we could all wear matching Dodger blue t-shirts, baseball caps, and giant foam fingers. We could go to home games and root for our local team. I'm not a huge baseball fan, but I enjoy going to the games, and we need a good family activity.

Joe is a huge baseball fan (fanatic is a better word) but he's not interested. I think it was the matching t-shirts that turned him off.

Noey wasn't all that interested either. Now that's she's been to a game, she doesn't feel the need to go again. (there's only one more home game before the end of the season, so I guess we're out of luck anyway)

A little bit of this, a little bit of that

Well, the Reunion was.....interesting. It was a lot of fun for me and Joe to get dressed up and go out....alone....together. I can count on one hand the number of times we've been out alone since Noey was born! (mind you, she's 6 now - that's less than once a year!)

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but Joe is 18 years older than me. Our age difference has never been an issue, and I don't really think about how old he is. Until we got to the Reunion. Those people were OLD! They looked old and they acted old. Joe looks and acts considerably younger, and of course I was considerably younger! I felt so out of place, like a 10 year old in a room full of grownups. Some of them had children my age and grandchildren Noey's age!! Oh well. We still had fun being together.

I finished the Baby Cardigan this week. It turned out really cute. I used 1 1/4 skeins of Bernat Satin, and a pattern from the Lion Brand Website. Topdown, very easy, and fast.

I also finished my Dishcloth for Sharon for the Dishcloth Shuffle, and mailed it off. I'll post a pic after Sharon receives it.

I started my super secret present for Isabelle this week as well. I'm using the lavender Bernat Satin again, and I'm kinda designing my own pattern so keep your fingers crossed that it turns out the way I want it too!

I've been dying to knit something for myself and I just couldn't wait so I cast on for the Moss Rib Stitch Pullover. I'm loving the striping. This is the Noro Silk Garden that once was Klaralund, which I frogged, and then bought a couple more skeins during the Great Summer Stash Haul of 2006.

Back on Track

Once again, Thank You for your kind comments! I hate to say I'm feeling better for fear I'll jinx myself again, but I am! I may have had eColi! I did eat some packaged spinach sometime within the last month, and I had all the worst symptoms. So I guess I'm lucky to be alive!!

Once I determined I wouldn't be able to finish my Pretty Peplum Cardigan in time for the reunion, I got to work on some other deadline projects. First up I finished my Dishcloth for

Sharon.....but I can't show you cuz it's a surprise.

Then I started working on this Baby Sweater for my friend from church, Sonja. She's having a scheduled c-section on October 20. I'm sure I'll have this done in the next couple of days.

Sue, I'm thinking of making Isabelle's sweater out of this yarn.....what do you think?

Joe's reunion is tonight! I've found a suitable replacement outfit to wear, although it's not nearly as cute!

The best laid plans.........

Well, I thought I was getting better. But now I'm sick again. I had to leave work early today because I thought I was going to die! (either that or pass out)

And I've finally given in to the fact that I'm not going to finish the Pretty Peplum Cardigan in time for the reunion this Saturday. I lost most of last week due to illness, and now it seems that this week will be lost as well.

At this point I'm just hoping I can make it to the reunion!

On a brighter note (sorry to be so grouchy!) head on over to Sue's blog and check out the beautiful sweater she made for Noey! It is so beautiful!! But don't tell Noey.....it's a surprise!

I'm getting better everyday...

Thank you all for your get well wishes. I am feeling much better, although still tired.

You know I had to be really sick to miss Noey's first day of school. I don't want to be to graphic, but..... I had a bacterial infection of the intestine.....which was very painful....and also caused me to become dehydrated......which led to hallucinations! It was an interesting ordeal.

Last Friday my niece Megan (who is originally from Miami, now living in San Diego, going to UCSD) drove up to visit us. For the first time. By herself. We're so proud! If you've ever driven the LA freeway system, you'll understand.

I got to see her Friday afternoon, and that was it. Whilst I lay prone for 3 days straight, the rest of my family had a great time.

On Saturday they all went to the La Brea Tar Pits and had lunch in West LA.

On Sunday they went to the Getty Museum.

On Monday Megan and Noey played all day together at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Oh well. I'm sure we'll see her again soon....now that she can drive our freeways!

The First Day of 1st Grade

Noey happily went off to 1st Grade yesterday....without me! I've been sick all weekend (really sick!) so Joe took her to school for her first day.
She's so grown up, I just can't get over it! She had a great first day, and the second day was pretty good as well.

Now we're back to our crazy schedule of school, work, gymnastics, Pioneer Kids, homework, knitting in the car, and early to bed!
